Job description

Role Overview

Shell Trading & Supply (T&S) Products plays a pivotal role within Shell’s Downstream portfolio, integrating efforts across the company to drive comprehensive delivery of low-carbon fuels (LCF). This dynamic sector encompasses biofeedstocks, biofuels, and emerging energy vectors like renewable electricity, green hydrogen, and Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs).

As an LCF Regulatory Analyst for the East region, you will be instrumental in guiding the global regulatory and compliance activities supporting T&S's low-carbon fuel initiatives. Your role involves identifying market prospects, interpreting evolving regulations, and facilitating the operationalization of Shell’s LCF products.

You will collaborate with a broad spectrum of internal teams—including aviation, maritime, mining, chemicals, hydrogen, electric vehicles, feedstocks, and mergers & acquisitions—as well as external stakeholders such as regulators, government ministries, industry groups, in partnership with Corporate Relations.

Key Duties

  • Continuously track and analyze political, legislative, and regulatory developments impacting the East region, recognizing potential threats and opportunities within Shell’s LCF business.
  • Evaluate, interpret, and summarize current and forthcoming regulations affecting feedstocks and renewable fuels across road transport, aviation, and maritime sectors.
  • Convert complex regulatory information into clear, practical insights, detailing the commercial implications for traders, business units, and senior management.
  • Assist in formulating business strategies by highlighting value-creation opportunities driven by regulatory changes.
  • Collaborate on long-term supply and demand modeling assumptions with the LCF analyst team to support Shell’s regulatory stance.
  • Offer subject matter expertise to aid policy, advocacy, and market design efforts alongside Corporate Relations and Policy & Advocacy departments.
  • Help implement regulatory requirements across T&S LCF operations to ensure adherence to changing compliance frameworks.
  • Represent Shell in relevant external forums involving regulators, industry associations, and multi-stakeholder platforms when appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Exceptional analytical skills with a keen eye for detail, capable of interpreting intricate regulations through a commercial perspective.
  • Proven ability to distill substantial information into succinct insights, guidance, and educational materials.
  • Commercial acumen with confidence to independently assess and challenge assumptions in a trading environment.
  • Strong ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively under time constraints.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, adept at establishing and leveraging relationships across diverse groups.
  • Self-motivated with a strong learning orientation and team spirit.
  • Superior written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Preferably, experience or knowledge of low-carbon fuel regulations such as Renewable Energy Directive (RED), FuelEU Maritime, ReFuelEU Aviation, EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), CORSIA, IMO frameworks, Low Carbon Fuel Standards (LCFS), RFNBO policies, and regional transport decarbonization schemes.
  • Candidates lacking direct LCF expertise should demonstrate familiarity with related regulated sectors such as carbon markets, natural gas or power markets, or agricultural commodities.
  • Keen to develop or possess experience in carbon accounting, voluntary and compliance carbon markets in transport sectors, and chain of custody or traceability models like mass balance systems.
  • Ability to link regulatory insights with commercial strategy and identify value opportunities.
  • Experience in supporting policy development or advocacy is advantageous.
