Overview
A leading global hedge fund is growing its commodities investing platform and is hiring a Junior Commodities Trading Analyst in Singapore. The business is scaling its market-facing research and trading function across several markets, creating an opportunity to join a high-growth team with direct access to investment activity.
This role sits within a collaborative environment where you will be involved across the full trade cycle, partner with experienced traders and portfolio managers, and help shape investment decisions in global commodities.
The platform covers a wide spread of commodity sectors, including power, natural gas, crude oil, refined products, metals, and other international commodity markets.
What the role involves
You will support the trading team with research, quantitative analysis, and model development. The position combines fundamental market work with systematic analysis and discretionary trading exposure, giving you the chance to contribute trade ideas while building strong knowledge of commodity markets.
- Carry out ad hoc research based on commodity market fundamentals and current market developments.
- Develop, update, and improve quantitative models and analytical tools.
- Review market data, datasets, and existing models to uncover opportunities and sharpen forecasts.
- Study supply-demand balances, price linkages, and macroeconomic factors across commodity markets.
- Provide traders and portfolio managers with timely insights and analytical support.
- Help originate and assess trading ideas.
- Create scalable Python tools that improve research and trading processes.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a quantitative academic background and a strong interest in commodity markets and trading.
- A degree in a numerically focused subject such as mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, economics, or a similar discipline.
- Either recent graduation with relevant commodities internship experience, or up to 2 years of experience in commodities research, analytics, or trading.
- Strong Python programming ability is required.
- Exposure to other languages such as SQL, C++, R, MATLAB, or Julia will be a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including comfort working with complex datasets.
- Genuine interest in financial markets, commodity trading, and the fundamentals driving global energy and commodity prices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a fast-moving, team-oriented setting.
