About the Role
The Junior Accountant will play a crucial role in the Accounts & Finance Department of a hospital setting, assisting in maintaining precise financial records, managing daily accounting operations, handling hospital billing and collections, and supporting senior accounting staff in financial report preparation and compliance with statutory requirements. Confidentiality, accuracy, and timely task completion are key expectations in this position.
Key Duties
- Record daily financial transactions accurately, including purchase, sales, receipt, payment, and journal vouchers in the accounting software.
- Maintain and organize supporting documentation for all accounting entries and ensure entries are posted to correct ledgers and cost centers.
- Verify invoices, receipts, and payment documents prior to entry and report any discrepancies to senior staff.
- Assist in monitoring hospital billing collections, verify payments (cash, UPI, card), and coordinate with billing teams to resolve collection differences.
- Track and maintain records of daily collections, discounts, refunds, and ensure appropriate documentation and filing.
- Manage daily cash records, reconcile physical cash with collection reports, prepare deposits, and report inconsistencies promptly.
- Verify and enter vendor invoices, maintain vendor ledgers, assist with payment preparations, and resolve supplier account issues.
- Maintain customer and patient receivable records, track pending payments, and assist in receivable reporting.
- Perform bank reconciliations regularly, matching bank transactions with accounting data and tracking discrepancies.
- Input transactions in Tally Prime or hospital accounting software, update ledgers, and generate basic accounting reports.
- Support GST and TDS documentation processes, maintain statutory records, and assist with audits under senior staff guidance.
- Help manage payroll accounting entries, maintain confidentiality of employee financial data, and coordinate with HR as needed.
- Support monthly accounting closing activities, create MIS and financial statements like Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet, and ensure timely completion of accounting records.
- Prepare and provide documentation required for internal and external audits, ensuring organized and accessible records.
- Collaborate with various hospital departments (Billing, Pharmacy, Lab, HR, Administration) for accounting data, verify expenses and collections by departments, and assist in departmental financial reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all financial and personal information related to patients, employees, vendors, and hospital transactions.
- Maintain physical and electronic accounting records securely, ensure proper filing and backups, and follow hospital policies regarding document handling.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Tally Prime and Microsoft Excel.
- Basic understanding of GST and TDS regulations.
- Good numerical aptitude, analytical ability, and attention to detail.
- Effective documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to identify and report accounting discrepancies.
- Strong communication and coordination capabilities.
- Confidentiality in handling sensitive financial and employee information.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks efficiently.

Education and Experience
Candidates should have a minimum educational qualification of B.Com, M.Com, BBA Finance, or an equivalent degree. A background in accounting with 1 to 4 years of relevant experience is preferred. However, fresh graduates possessing a strong grasp of accounting principles may also be considered. Prior experience in hospital, healthcare, or similar service environments is advantageous.
