International Issues Specialist

About the Role

This opportunity involves joining a prominent organization in a confidential search for an experienced International Issues Specialist. The successful candidate will operate within the policy and government affairs division, focusing on integrating global affairs insights, regulatory intelligence, and stakeholder relations into strategic business applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, evaluate, and integrate legislative, regulatory, and geopolitical developments in major international markets such as the EU, APAC, MENA, and LATAM regions.
• Develop clear briefings, summaries, and risk evaluations tailored for senior leadership review.
• Keep track of activities at multilateral organizations like the WTO, UN entities, and OECD, as well as bilateral trade matters pertinent to the organization's agenda.
• Establish and nurture relationships with foreign governments, trade bodies, NGOs, and diplomatic missions.
• Act as the organization's representative in external boards, coalitions, and collaborative groups.
• Collaborate with lobbyists, legal consultants, and external advisors across different jurisdictions to align government relations efforts.
• Work closely with internal teams—Legal, Compliance, Communications, and Business Development—to evaluate risks arising from international developments and support regulatory inquiry responses.
• Assist in shaping the organization’s public policy stances and advocacy tactics.
• Generate ongoing international affairs reports and special memoranda on pressing issues.
• Maintain an up-to-date dashboard tracking legislative and regulatory priorities globally.
• Support the drafting of leadership speeches, testimonies, and regulatory submissions.

Candidate Qualifications

• At least five years of professional experience in international policy, government affairs, trade policy, or a related domain.
• Strong expertise in at least one international region such as the EU, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, or Latin America.
• Exceptional research and analytical capabilities with aptitude for simplifying complex topics into concise, actionable briefings.
• Proficient written and verbal English communication skills; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
• Proven track record of successful engagement with government agencies or multilateral organizations.
• Ability to operate autonomously in a remote work setting while effectively managing multiple priorities.
• Preferred qualifications include experience in sectors like energy, financial services, technology, or trade; prior roles in government, think tanks, or international NGOs; knowledge of US foreign policy and Congressional affairs; and relevant graduate education in International Relations, Public Policy, Law, or Political Science.
