Overview
The Infection Control Specialist is tasked with the execution and oversight of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). This role safeguards patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel while ensuring adherence to organizational policies, national legislation, and global accreditation norms such as CBAHI and JCI.
Key Duties
- Implement and sustain the organization's IPC program.
- Carry out active surveillance of HAIs using standardized surveillance definitions and methods.
- Gather, analyze, interpret, and report infection data and outbreak trends.
- Conduct regular IPC audits across all clinical and non-clinical settings.
- Ensure compliance with protocols on hand hygiene, standard and transmission-based precautions, isolation, and appropriate PPE use.
- Engage in outbreak investigation and management, recommending necessary corrective actions.
- Develop, evaluate, and update IPC policies and guidelines based on current best practices.
- Provide training, education, and orientation to healthcare workers on infection prevention measures.
- Collaborate with various departments such as Quality, Nursing, Medical Staff, Laboratory, Environmental Services, Occupational Health, and Sterile Processing to enhance IPC practices.
- Monitor sterilization, disinfection, environmental cleanliness, and medical waste management compliance.
- Contribute to accreditation efforts, regulatory audits, and quality improvement projects.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual IPC reports to the Infection Control Committee and management.
- Participate in emergency plans and responses for infectious disease outbreaks.
- Adhere to confidentiality, ethics, and organizational protocols.
Educational & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or related healthcare fields.
- Valid professional license or registration as applicable.
- Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred.
Experience Requirements
- At least two years of clinical or infection control experience.
- Background in CBAHI or JCI accredited healthcare environments is advantageous.
Knowledge and Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of infection prevention and control concepts.
- Familiarity with infection prevention standards from CBAHI, JCI, CDC, and WHO.
- Expertise in surveillance and epidemiology methodologies.
- Strong skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and interpretation.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and educational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and infection surveillance software.
