Role overview

The Cyber Security Analyst supports the Cyber Security team in protecting DSDIP’s confidential and sensitive information. This role is responsible for carrying out security assessments, deploying and maintaining security tooling, keeping systems patched and current, and watching SIEM and related platforms for possible cyber incidents or weaknesses.

The position partners with ITS Managers and other stakeholders to shape, implement and document security controls that reduce risk while still supporting business goals. It also provides the Manager, Cyber Security with practical, risk-aware advice on new threats, how effective current controls are, and where the department can strengthen its cyber security posture.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out correlation, monitoring, research and analysis across enterprise security tools such as SIEM, SOAR, firewalls, EDR, email gateways and web filtering to build situational awareness and understand the effect of security events.
  • Deploy and support security technologies including PAM, application allow-listing, and MDR/MDDR solutions to help lower organisational risk.
  • Examine suspected threats, apply mitigations, and explain the impact on systems and information assets in clear terms.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to define security goals, align them to business needs, and support project delivery.
  • Research current information security threats, industry developments and new technologies, then share practical guidance with stakeholders to support informed decisions.
  • Help prepare strategic project plans and schedules, including identifying risks, issues and suitable mitigation actions.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and identify exploits, weaknesses or possible threats using offensive security methods.
  • Carry out remediation actions to address identified security issues.
  • Lead the creation, rollout and ongoing improvement of security baselines, audit outcomes and framework compliance activities.
  • Resolve second- and third-level security support issues with minimal supervision.
  • Mentor and guide the Cyber Security Officer while contributing to a stronger overall security posture for the agency.
