Key Responsibilities

  • Sweep, damp mop, and wet mop tiled areas, occasionally performing spray buffing, stripping, or waxing floors according to facility protocols, using wet floor signs appropriately.
  • Identify and report carpeted sections requiring cleaning or spot treatment to supervisors.
  • Vacuum carpets in designated rooms.
  • Clean and dust surfaces in patient rooms, including furniture, bed frames, and windowsills, adhering to cleaning procedures and safety practices.
  • Empty trash receptacles, clean both interiors and exteriors, and replace liners.
  • Maintain cleanliness of bathroom sinks, fixtures, and toilets following established procedures.
  • Wipe glass surfaces such as mirrors, pictures, and windows.
  • Clean areas behind and underneath furniture, moving items as necessary following safety guidelines.
  • Turn bed mattresses after cleaning to maintain condition.
  • Maintain dining areas by cleaning after breakfast and lunch, including wiping tables and floor care.
  • Change and rehang soiled privacy curtains and draperies on exterior windows, utilizing ladders safely when needed.
  • Sweep outdoor porches and walkways, picking up any improperly disposed trash.
  • Adhere to assigned cleaning schedules and infection control standards, including the use of isolation precautions like gowns and gloves when necessary.
  • Respect patient rights, treating patients and their belongings with dignity and confidentiality during cleaning tasks.
  • Secure chemicals safely, keeping them locked or within sight and following Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) instructions.
  • Assist in caring for and properly storing housekeeping equipment and supplies.
  • Inspect equipment before use for safety, and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Ensure availability of supplies such as soap, lotion, paper towels, and toilet tissue throughout the facility.
  • Prevent and remove wax or dirt buildup in floors and around baseboards and doorways.
  • Contribute positively to the organization's image by demonstrating servant leadership and maintaining open communication channels.
  • Participate in committees, workgroups, and collaborative projects aimed at improving system success.
  • Perform other related duties to support the organization's objectives.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Fundamental understanding of cleaning techniques and chemical safety.
  • Effective communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, and visitors, presenting a warm, friendly, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and procedural documents.
  • Basic writing skills for preparing routine reports and correspondence.
  • Oral communication skills for effective interaction with groups and individuals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Practical reasoning capability to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions, and handle standardized situational problems involving concrete variables.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word applications is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not strictly required.

Physical Requirements

This role involves regular sitting, talking, hearing, and frequent walking. The job requires manual dexterity including the use of hands and arms, occasional standing, and good vision capabilities such as close and distance vision and focus adjustment.
