Head of Data Center Operations

About the Role

We are partnering with a prominent and rapidly growing data center developer to find a Head of Data Center Operations based in Melbourne, Australia. This executive leadership position requires overseeing the operational efficacy, reliability, and expansion of an extensive and critical portfolio of data centers. The role involves establishing and guiding top-tier operations teams, enhancing operational standards across various sites, and formulating long-range operational strategies for the expanding data center platform.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and direct the operational strategy and overall performance for multiple data center sites.
• Build and lead a proficient operations organization covering facility operations, engineering, maintenance, environmental control, capacity planning, and readiness for operations.
• Guarantee maximum uptime, resilience, regulatory compliance, and quality service across all centers.
• Develop and apply comprehensive operational policies, standards, procedures, and governance models.
• Manage critical infrastructure operations including electrical, mechanical, control systems, and life safety frameworks.
• Oversee the operational preparedness for launching new facilities, expanding existing ones, and increasing capacity.
• Lead the management of vendors and service providers to ensure performance excellence, accountability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate closely with teams in construction, development, engineering, customer relations, and executive leadership to support the company's expansion plans.
• Implement and track key performance indicators, operational reports, risk management systems, and business continuity plans.
• Promote a culture prioritizing safety, responsibility, innovation, and continuous operational improvements.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years' experience in critical infrastructure operations such as mission-critical environments, data centers, telecommunications, or utility sectors.
• Proven leadership experience managing operations across large, multi-location facilities or infrastructure portfolios.
• Demonstrated capability managing essential business operations with high uptime and reliability demands.
• In-depth knowledge of critical electrical and mechanical systems, risk management, maintenance schedules, and emergency response strategies.
• Track record of building and leading senior operational leadership teams effectively.
• Expertise in creating operational strategies, governance frameworks, and long-term capacity planning.
• Exceptional skills in stakeholder management and executive communication.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
