AngloGold Ashanti (Iduapriem) Limited, a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti Limited, operates the Teberebie and Iduapriem open-pit gold mines in Tarkwa, Western Region, Ghana. The organization employs more than 1,400 people, including contractors, and is seeking an energetic, ambitious, and performance-focused professional for a permanent Fuel Champion role within the Mining Department.

Purpose of the position

This role is responsible for managing all matters related to diesel use in the Mining Department. The position involves reviewing fuel reports produced automatically and by planners, analyzing usage patterns, and recommending and implementing actions that reduce fuel wastage and excess consumption.

Key accountabilities

  • Keep the liquid automation system (LAS) fuel management setup in reliable working order at all times.
  • Confirm that the system is properly calibrated and reconcile LAS output with planner reports, correcting any inconsistencies or irregularities.
  • Work with planners and the maintenance team to carry out cylinder cut-out and injector solenoid checks so faulty components can be identified and replaced for better fuel efficiency.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations between fuel delivered by vendors and fuel consumed by the mining department.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on fuel efficiency and burn rates across mobile and fixed assets for relevant mine stakeholders.
  • Support the rollout of policies and practices aimed at reducing fuel consumption on site.
  • Receive training where needed and train operators, fuel bowser users, pump attendants, and other end users on how to work with the LAS system.

Required background and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with hydrocarbons.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SAP.
  • Ability to analyze data and produce clear reports.
  • Experience with the LAS fuel management system will be considered an added advantage.
  • Must hold either an Inspection Engineer certificate of competency and/or a Drill and Blast certificate.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Willingness to coach and develop others by sharing knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent written, spoken, and interpersonal communication skills in English.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from varied cultural backgrounds.
  • Valid driver’s licence with competence in driving a light vehicle.
