Join Cove, a new startup backed by Deck2 Capital, which specializes in acquiring profitable digital insurance companies and operating them for growth. As part of this stealth, yet already profitable, venture based in Sydney, you will play a foundational role in shaping the finance function of a fast-expanding insurance business.

Job Responsibilities

This position is focused on building and leading the finance department rather than maintaining existing systems. You will establish statutory and management reporting, enforce financial controls, manage the month-end closing process, and ensure preparedness for audits within a regulated and agile environment. Initially, you will operate as the individual contributor, eventually growing the finance team around your leadership.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will hold CA or CPA qualifications with tangible experience as a controller, particularly in statutory reporting, month-end processes, controls, and audit management. Experience within regulated sectors like insurance or financial services is highly desirable. We seek a candidate with a builder's mindset, comfortable working amid ambiguity and setting up new processes and functions.

Advanced Technical Expectations

As an AI-native company, Cove values expertise in leveraging AI technologies within finance roles. Candidates will distinguish themselves by actively using AI agents for complex task planning and execution, developing tools that extract accurate insights from proprietary data (Retrieval Augmented Generation - RAG), producing reliable outputs via advanced prompt and context engineering, and frequently creating customized tools or solutions, even without formal coding experience.
