About the Role
Mercor is a leader in connecting top-tier creative and technical professionals with pioneering AI research laboratories. Based in San Francisco, they are backed by prominent investors like Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey.
This opportunity is for an Accounting Expert position on a contract basis, offering compensation between $130 and $160 per hour, with fully remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop highly accurate and task-specific evaluation criteria for real-world accounting outputs, including reconciliations, close packages, and financial statements.
- Assess AI-generated and human-produced work samples according to these criteria, providing thorough written explanations supporting each rating.
- Use methodical, evidence-backed judgment to ensure scoring is both consistent and defendable.
- Incorporate structured feedback from senior reviewers and rapidly revise your evaluations accordingly.
- Work independently and asynchronously to help improve AI model performance in accounting-related tasks.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of professional experience in accounting.
- Professional background in audit, assurance, or advisory roles at top global accounting firms, or senior accounting positions at large publicly traded companies.
- Preferably holding a CPA or an equivalent professional accounting certification.
- Expert knowledge of US GAAP, including month-end close, account reconciliations, financial statement creation, and preparation of audit-ready workpapers.
- Excellent written communication abilities.
- Detail-focused, consistent, and comfortable with receiving peer review feedback.

- Prior exposure to AI training, evaluation, or human-data projects is advantageous.
