Role Overview
We are looking to hire a seasoned External Affairs Manager who will spearhead the development and execution of external affairs strategies, stakeholder engagement agendas, and public policy initiatives. This role encompasses managing relationships with government and community partners, strategic alliance formation, reputation management, advocacy, and fostering cross-department collaboration to effectively represent the organization's interests externally.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and execute comprehensive external affairs strategies, stakeholder engagement plans, and relationship management systems that support organizational goals.
- Lead interactions with government agencies, regulatory bodies, industry groups, NGOs, community organizations, strategic partners, and other key external stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with teams across Corporate Affairs, Government Relations, Communications, PR, Legal, Sustainability, Business Development, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, and Executive Leadership to advance company priorities.
- Establish and nurture trusted connections with public officials, industry leaders, community figures, media outlets, and strategic collaborators.
- Keep watch on legislative, regulatory, political, economic, and sector developments to pinpoint opportunities, risks, and business impacts.
- Design advocacy approaches, draft policy position documents, briefing notes, executive messages, stakeholder communications, and responses for consultations.
- Organize external engagement efforts such as public consultations, conferences, industry meetings, sponsorship activities, community outreach, and partnership projects.
- Assist with crisis communication and reputation management by coordinating external messaging and stakeholder updates during critical incidents.
- Track key performance metrics including stakeholder interaction, partnership efficacy, policy results, media sentiment, community engagement, advocacy achievements, regulatory changes, and reputation indicators.
- Conduct detailed stakeholder mapping, risk evaluation, environmental scanning, benchmarking, and ongoing process enhancements.
- Ensure adherence to UAE laws, corporate governance frameworks, public affairs policies, ethical lobbying standards, and internal organizational procedures.
- Oversee budgets for external affairs, manage consulting firms, public affairs agencies, community investment programs, industry memberships, and strategic partnership initiatives.
- Champion digital transformation via stakeholder management platforms, AI-driven media monitoring, sentiment insights, analytics tools, digital engagement systems, workflow automation, and BI solutions.
- Leverage software tools such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Cision, Meltwater, Microsoft 365, Power BI, Tableau, CRM systems, stakeholder platforms, media monitoring utilities, and project management software to monitor and derive insights from engagement activities.
- Prepare comprehensive executive dashboards, analytical reports on stakeholder engagement, public policy, reputation, regulatory developments, partnership evaluations, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team including external affairs specialists, government relations experts, communications advisors, community engagement staff, and cross-functional teams fostering culture built on integrity, collaboration, strategic vision, innovation, and continuous growth.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in fields such as Public Administration, Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Business Administration, Law, Journalism, or related disciplines.
- A Master's qualification in Public Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration (MBA), Communications, International Relations, or allied fields is highly preferred.
- Professional certifications in Public Affairs, Government Relations, Project Management, Communications, or Stakeholder Engagement are advantageous.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in external affairs, government relations, public affairs, corporate communications, regulatory affairs, or stakeholder engagement roles.
- Preferably at least two years managing external affairs programs, government relations projects, strategic partnerships, or reputation management efforts.
- Comprehensive knowledge of public policy processes, government systems, stakeholder management, regulatory frameworks, corporate communication, community engagement, and reputation preservation.
- Hands-on experience with software including Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Cision, Meltwater, Microsoft Office, Power BI, Tableau, CRM platforms, stakeholder management tools, and media monitoring applications.
- Familiarity with AI-based analytics tools for stakeholder intelligence, media monitoring, sentiment evaluation, digital engagement solutions, workflow automation, and advanced reporting mechanisms is a plus.
- Strong leadership capabilities coupled with excellent communication, negotiation, analytical thinking, project management, relationship building, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to balance numerous external affairs projects while aligning with company priorities, governance updates, public interests, budgets, deadlines, and stakeholder needs.
- Capability to work effectively in a remote setting with distributed colleagues, government agencies, community organizations, industry associations, media representatives, and global partners; occasional travel is expected for meetings, conferences, and public events.
