Job Overview

This opportunity is a full-time farm hand role located in Barrhill, 50 km north of Ashburton, Canterbury, New Zealand. The position is temporary with the potential to become permanent for a suitable candidate. Immediate start is available. Accommodation may be provided for the right applicant. The farm is a 500-hectare arable and mixed cropping enterprise specializing in wheat, barley, and white clover production, alongside general sheep and cattle farming.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating tractors for various farming activities including moving irrigators and spreading fertiliser.
• Performing general livestock duties involving both sheep and cattle.
• Carrying out a variety of daily farm tasks to support farm operations.
• Working Monday through Friday starting at 7:30 am until daily tasks are completed; occasional weekend work during peak times.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience as a farm hand with confident tractor and machinery operation skills is essential.
• Competence in using GPS and related farm technology.
• Possession of a valid full driver's license; holding a Heavy Traffic License is advantageous.
• Experience working with sheep and cattle in a farm environment.
• Physically fit, healthy, and comfortable working outdoors under varying conditions.
• Reliable transport for accessing the Barrhill farm location.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrating reliability and strong work ethic.
• Must hold New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa; applicants without legal work rights or residency in New Zealand will not be considered.
• Subject to background checks including Ministry of Justice and ACC, and successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
