About the Role

This senior leadership position oversees the management of Queensland's Great Barrier Reef, marine parks, coastal, and island operations. Reporting to the Assistant Director-General, Management and Operations, the Executive Director manages a workforce exceeding 300 employees and is responsible for a budget approximating $50 million. The role encompasses directing conservation programs, visitor services, environmental protection measures, infrastructure projects, and disaster recovery efforts, ensuring balanced sustainable use of treasured natural resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic planning and operational delivery for Queensland's marine and coastal protected areas.
• Manage the complex conservation and visitor management programs to meet government and community expectations.
• Oversee major projects including pest and fire control initiatives, infrastructure expansion, and disaster recovery operations.
• Provide expert advice on environmental policies, operational procedures, and compliance with legislative frameworks.
• Forge and maintain partnerships with First Nations communities, government bodies, industry stakeholders, and other partners.
• Govern a geographically dispersed workforce ensuring strong performance management, governance, and compliance.

Candidate Profile

• Proven executive leadership experience in managing large-scale operations or service delivery within complex environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and deliver strategic objectives through operational excellence.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the capacity to build trusted relationships across multiple sectors.
• Culturally capable with experience engaging respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organizations.
