Role Overview
This role involves performing detailed drafting tasks, organizing engineering data, designing structural elements, and recommending design modifications. Responsibilities also encompass surveying activities, GIS/GeoBase data updates and maintenance. This position supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) based at Al Udeid Air Base, Doha, Qatar.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and print customized maps using Defense Area Printing Service (DAPS) or other government systems upon request, and save them to designated government platforms.
- Conduct engineering surveys including facility projects, construction layouts, utility locations, and disaster response efforts.
- Carry out field surveys to collect geospatial data for tracking built and natural infrastructure, updating multiple mission data sets.
- Create and maintain technical drawings, geospatial data, and mapping outputs to support various engineering needs.
- Provide drafting and engineering assistance to customers, engineers, craftsmen, and project teams as required.
- Establish and maintain an accessible repository of technical reference materials, including plans and specifications for engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
- Organize and compile project documents such as cost estimates, specifications, bills of materials, time schedules, and contract-related statements of work.
- Use GeoBase and associated GIS platforms to manage installation spatial data aligned with Air Force civil engineering and mission requirements, adhering to relevant policies and standards.
- Ensure compliance with data standards and contribute to updating Common Installation Picture (CIP), Mission Data Sets (MDS), and related geospatial layers.
- Deliver updated CIP maps annually or upon infrastructure changes to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) in both print and electronic formats, including precise quantities and dimensions.
- Maintain spatially accurate and geo-referenced digital facility floor plans adhering to Drawing of Record and Space Use Data Set guidelines using advanced documentation techniques such as 360-degree scans and photography.
- Perform various surveying tasks including airfield waiver surveys, topographic mapping, boundary and control surveys using government-provided GPS, rangefinders, and total stations, integrating survey data into GIS databases.
- Maintain and update installation planning and infrastructure spatial data to reflect true ground conditions and specific customer requirements.
- Edit and add new GIS data in the Air Force System of Record using ESRI ArcGIS Pro and AutoCAD software.
- Collaborate with installation subject matter experts to verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies in geospatial information.
- Maintain as-built drawings of facilities and infrastructure, particularly for overseas locations.
- Undertake other related surveying, drafting, and GIS/GeoBase tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of three years’ experience in surveying and drafting, with at least one year recent experience in AutoCAD and GIS software application.
- Proficiency in technical drawing creation and geospatial data management.
- Familiarity with survey methodologies, including differential leveling, Engineering Data Management/Data Collectors, and GPS tools (preferably Trimble brand).
- Ability to create or update space usage data as per Space Use Data Set (SUDS) guidelines.
- Preference for candidates experienced with US Government and military projects both domestically and internationally.
- Experience with project development documentation, contracting, and construction processes.
- Solid knowledge of project design reviews, GIS/GeoBase maintenance, surveying, and related administrative tasks.
- Strong command of AutoCAD 2025 or later for producing precise infrastructure plans to meet project requirements.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite and Project software.
- Strong teamwork capabilities and problem-solving aptitude.
- Must be a U.S. National and able to obtain/maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Valid driver’s license or international equivalent and passport required.
- Prior experience in overseas government contracting considered advantageous.
