About the Organization
The Katherine Thomas School, operating under TLC-The Treatment and Learning Centers in Rockville, MD, is a well-established institution delivering specialized education services to students with special needs for more than 25 years. It is recognized as an innovative leader within the community.
Position Overview
The school is seeking to appoint a full-time Education Director for the Lower and Middle School levels commencing in the 2026/2027 academic year. This role spans the entire year (12-month appointment) and requires onsite presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Lower/Middle School Director to design, execute, and supervise educational programs.
- Oversee instructional teams to ensure effective teaching delivery.
- Implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Develop student scheduling plans tailored to their educational needs.
- Provide support to students, staff, and families within the school community.
- Ensure compliance with requirements set forth by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a valid professional certificate or license as a special education supervisor or principal, or alternatively a valid professional special education teaching certificate or license.
- Master's degree in special education.
- Must possess MSDE licensure as a special educator.
- Proven experience working within environments dedicated to language-based learning disabilities, particularly with preschool to grade 3 students.
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Maintain professionalism and foster collaboration throughout the school community.
- Demonstrate capabilities in curriculum evaluation and strategic educational planning designed to enhance teaching and learning outcomes for diverse learners.

Salary
