Job description
About the Role
First Student seeks a dedicated Dispatcher to uphold our organization's core values of safety and excellent customer service. The Dispatcher will be responsible for coordinating all bus routes and schedules, ensuring punctuality, and providing guidance to drivers and monitors on the front lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all bus route scheduling and dispatch activities.
- Provide counseling and coaching support to drivers and monitors to maintain high performance.
- Handle extensive phone and radio communication traffic.
- Address scheduling conflicts and driver complaints, reporting issues to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager.
- Act as the primary communication liaison with major contracted clients.
- Possibly manage charter reservations, billing, and driver payroll duties when required.
- Develop solutions for issues related to drop-offs and pick-ups.
- Perform back-up driver functions or various administrative tasks as needed.
- Complete special projects assigned by management.
- Assist in the supervision of daily operational activities.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in dispatch or terminal operations.
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Basic familiarity with radio dispatch equipment.
- Strong communication and customer service aptitude.
- Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines and time constraints.
- Comfortable using computers and related technology.
- Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing policies and physical exams, including restrictions against Schedule I drugs such as marijuana according to DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40.
