We are innovators collaborating closely with Product and Engineering in cross-functional squads to maximize impact across content enrichment, representation learning, recommendations, search, translation, and more across diverse text, image, and audio media. Our scale involves hundreds of millions of documents and billions of user interactions.

Role Overview

We seek a Data Scientist II experienced in designing, deploying, and scaling machine learning models. This role involves close collaboration with ML Engineers, Data Engineers, and Product teams to create impactful AI/ML solutions emphasizing simplicity, end-to-end oversight, and effective deployment of large-scale language models.

Responsibilities

  • Address complex, large-scale challenges unique to Scribd with innovative approaches.
  • Collaborate across disciplines with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and Data Engineers on shared projects.
  • Utilize a wide range of algorithms, from classical Scikit-learn and NumPy methods to custom neural networks implemented in PyTorch, including integration with external LLM APIs.
  • Handle and process very large datasets using Python, SQL, and Spark technologies.
  • Communicate project methodologies and outcomes clearly and effectively, maintaining precise and concise documentation.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years post-qualification experience in developing, deploying, and managing machine learning models at scale in production environments.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python.
  • Experience building machine learning pipelines and working with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Databricks.
  • Intermediate expertise in at least three areas among classification algorithms, NLP, search, information retrieval, named entity recognition, deep learning, and generative modeling.
  • Competency in SQL or PySpark at an intermediate level or higher.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or other quantitatively focused fields.

Compensation and Location

Salary ranges depend on location and market benchmarks. In Canada, expected compensation is from 123000 to 150000 CAD annually, accompanied by competitive equity options and a comprehensive benefits package.

Work Location
