Job Overview
The custodian role at University of the Fraser Valley involves carrying out comprehensive cleaning and maintenance duties across various campus sites. Responsibilities include ensuring that washrooms, classrooms, offices, corridors, and entrances are clean and orderly, removing trash, preserving the condition of floors and staircases, and preparing classrooms for students and faculty.
Key Duties
- Perform cleaning tasks throughout assigned campus areas to maintain hygiene and appearance.
- Handle garbage removal and upkeep of floor surfaces including stripping and waxing.
- Manage security tasks such as locking/unlocking buildings and rooms as needed.
- Assist with relocating furniture and equipment when required.
- Clear litter and snow from outdoor walkways during adverse conditions.
- Wear designated UFV uniform as part of the team.
- Adapt to shift schedules as part of regular work routines.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a Building Service Worker Certificate is mandatory.
- Minimum one year of relevant custodial experience.
- WHMIS certification necessary for handling materials safely.
- Familiarity with commercial floor maintenance equipment and procedures is required.
- Ability to operate independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical demands include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving heavy objects.
- Preparedness to work in environments with strong fumes, noise, dust, and elevated areas while adhering to safety protocols and utilizing protective gear such as earplugs, gloves, and safety glasses.
