About the Role
Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) is hiring variable part-time Crisis Intervention Advocates to serve as a first point of contact for people affected by domestic violence. This role supports survivors, their friends and family members, and other community members seeking help through DAIS crisis intake services. The position is based onsite in Arlington, VA and includes varied shifts to help maintain round-the-clock coverage.
The schedule is flexible and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, daytime hours, and occasional overnight shifts. The weekly commitment is typically 10 to 19 hours, depending on scheduling needs. Pay is $21.42 per hour, with an additional $2.50 shift differential for hours worked between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
About DAIS
DAIS works to support people impacted by domestic violence while also promoting broader social change through education, advocacy, and outreach. The organization’s vision is a community free from violence and grounded in safety, peace, justice, and hope. DAIS is committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action.
What You’ll Do
Crisis Intervention Advocates provide trauma-informed support, crisis counseling, and advocacy to callers and walk-in clients. You will help with safety planning, offer practical problem-solving support, connect people to internal DAIS services, and refer clients to appropriate community resources. The role also involves responding to law enforcement referrals, supporting emergency situations, and assisting across departments as needed to ensure client needs are addressed.
Qualifications
Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills, solid attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive and challenging situations with care. A four-year college degree is preferred, although relevant experience may be accepted in place of a degree. Experience with trauma survivors, children, diverse communities, domestic violence issues, and volunteer coordination is preferred. Familiarity with Dane County community resources, strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, and bilingual Spanish/English ability are also preferred.
Work Environment
This job is performed onsite in an office environment and involves regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines, keyboards, mice, and filing cabinets. The role requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods, move around efficiently, exchange information clearly in person and by phone, and review documents and spreadsheets with good visual focus.
Application Instructions
To apply, submit three items: a cover letter, a resume, and the DAIS Application for Employment. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed. Applications will be accepted until the role is filled. Materials may be sent by email as an attachment, through the organization’s careers page, or by fax or U.S. mail using the contact details available on the website.
