Role Overview

The Policing Support Services Department invites applications for the position of Crime Analyst. Reporting directly to the department director and collaborating closely with police personnel, the successful candidate will analyze crime data to detect patterns and trends, provide actionable intelligence, and forecast future criminal activity. Maintaining confidentiality and collaborating effectively with diverse teams are key in this position. This role also supports law enforcement investigations to optimize patrol deployments, reduce criminal activities, and aid in suspect apprehension.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement data collection methods and strategies to support intelligence gathering by researching and interpreting crime data to identify trends and patterns.
• Analyze and illustrate relationships, criminal behaviors, and series, while identifying intelligence shortfalls; assist investigation leaders and management in prioritizing operations, allocating resources, and shaping crime reduction tactics.
• Offer expert guidance on complex investigations, perform tactical, operational, and strategic analyses for legal proceedings, and, when required, present expert testimony in court.
• Establish and maintain a network of internal and external contacts for exchanging information related to criminal trends and intelligence.
• Effectively communicate analytical insights to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• A university degree in Criminology or a closely related social science discipline.
• Proficiency with standard office software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience in research, report writing, and data analysis.
• Familiarity with policing policies and procedures is regarded as an advantage.

Additional Information

• Candidates must pass a relevant practical examination testing crime analyst duties.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be accepted.
• Candidates holding current RCMP Security Clearance will be preferred.

Work Hours and Compensation

The standard workweek is approximately 37.5 hours, with exact scheduling determined by a supervisor. The starting pay range is $45.21 to $58.43 per hour according to the Out-of-Scope Agreement. A comprehensive benefits package is included.
