Job purpose
This role is accountable for the end-to-end ownership, coordination, and upkeep of electronic laboratory information and results within the lab environment.
Minimum qualification
A National Diploma or BTech in Analytical Chemistry is required.
Requirements
- You must have a certificate in Querying with Transcript_SQL2016.
- At least 3 years of hands-on LIMS experience is needed, including strong working knowledge of LabWare LIMS, LabStation™, Crystal Reports, and related tools.
- Medical fitness for the specific business area is mandatory.
- A clear security screening record is required.
- A valid driver’s licence is required where applicable.
Advantageous qualification
A certificate in LIMS (Labware – LIMS) will be considered an advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and support team members through coaching, on-the-job guidance, performance management, development support, and fair allocation of work.
- Promote high performance, team motivation, and a strong culture of safety, health, and environmental compliance.
- Participate in risk assessments, investigations, corrective actions, and adherence to company policies, procedures, and SHE requirements.
- Contribute to SHE leadership and participate in relevant regional and local decision-making forums that support long-term business sustainability.
- Approve departmental documentation and ensure compliance with the Quality Management System.
- Support safe production, operational excellence, and competitive cost performance.
- Manage financial processes such as purchase requisitions, store reservations, service entry sheets, commitment reporting, actual cost analysis, and cost allocation to business units.
- Support budgeting, expenditure approval, monthly and annual budget preparation, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, keep communication channels open, and work cross-functionally.
- Register new users in the LIMS reporting database, coordinate IT hardware needs, and support data integration with metal accounting stakeholders.
- Liaise with service providers, environmental management entities, and external partners for process improvement tools and related requirements.
- Maintain system security, manage user compliance, support backup and recovery procedures, and protect data access and availability.
- Handle sample management tasks such as barcode printing, barcode database maintenance, sample categorisation, and sourcing related equipment and software.
- Perform system checks, monitor reliability and availability, identify failures and inefficiencies, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
- Maintain data integrity, create data availability structures, investigate reporting errors, and support year-end backup strategy planning.
- Maintain printers, electronic hardware, and remote system access, while resolving system errors and updating sample records as required.
- Support integration, optimisation, and technical improvements across specialised software, SACO, SCADA, instrument interfaces, and metals accounting systems.
- Write integration scripts, manage timeous and accurate data transacting for mining, concentrator, smelter, BMR, and financial forecasting needs.
- Provide technical mentorship, analytical input, testing support, system redesign input, and guidance on specialised information software.
- Administer database and information systems, including compliance controls, secure data capture, audit trails, archives, barcode allocation, and LIMS/MES updates.
- Conduct LIMS configurations, manage change requests and upgrades, install software on a local network, train end users, and take full ownership of LIMS functionality.
