Key Responsibilities
- Lead and provide expert guidance in configuration management at the domain level within projects.
- Define configuration management scope and activities during project bidding phases.
- When delegated by the Project Manager, undertake the role of work package manager for configuration management tasks.
- Analyze contractual requirements regarding configuration management during bid preparation.
- Communicate and collaborate with customers to clarify and adjust configuration management expectations.
- Oversee management of established baselines and customer-related configuration requirements for products or programs.
- Create and maintain Configuration Management Plans (CMP) for product lines and programs.
- Coordinate with customers, partners, subcontractors, and suppliers to evaluate their configuration management competencies and enforce requirements through Statements of Work (SOW).
- Conduct audits to verify subcontractor and supplier adherence to configuration management requirements.
- Manage configuration management interactions across organizational and external boundaries to ensure adherence to build-to-spec and design-to-spec principles.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to decide on configuration items and items requiring control based on defined criteria.
- Organize product structures covering common elements, variants, and options, with agreement from program or product line managers.
- Define, organize, and oversee Configuration Control Board (CCB) processes, including preparatory and follow-up activities.
- Manage Contract, Functional, Allocated, and Product Configuration Baselines effectively within program/product lines.
- Deliver configuration management outputs to customers under project management oversight.
- Verify and audit the content and integrity of the Configuration Management System (CMS).
- Support engineering and program phase reviews and milestone assessments with configuration management expertise.
- Ensure comprehensive management of program/product lines within the CMS framework.
- Conduct Functional and Physical Configuration Audits (FCA, PCA) for assigned product lines or programs.
- Coordinate configuration management efforts across various departments involved in program/product lines.
- Collaborate with management and sales teams to facilitate creation of new product or system versions.
- Provide leadership and line management for the configuration management team staff.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant graduate technical or business degree or an equivalent qualification in configuration management or a closely related field.
- Graduate-level experience in a technical discipline related to configuration management or substantial prior configuration management experience.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management principles and practices.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Proficiency in configuration management tools such as PTC Windchill, Siemens Teamcenter, or other equivalents.
- Understanding of configuration management standards and processes.
- Demonstrated leadership, negotiation, and coordination capabilities.
- Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in systems engineering, software or hardware engineering, or customer service engineering roles.
- Awareness of relevant standards including SAE EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61B, ISO 10007, etc.
- Experience managing teams and transversal management skills.
- Familiarity with the specific product involved.
