Communications Advisor

About the Role

Hume City Council, one of Australia's most rapidly expanding and culturally rich councils, places community and customer service at the forefront of its operations. We are looking to appoint a Communications Advisor on a fixed-term contract for 12 months to join our Strategic Communications team. The successful candidate will aid in delivering exemplary communications services that facilitate meaningful connections between the community and Council initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute communication strategies, campaigns, and activities that align with Council projects and priorities.
• Oversee communication projects from inception to assessment, ensuring objectives are met within deadlines.
• Offer expert communication advice on messaging, channels, and tactics to optimize outreach.
• Create clear, compelling content tailored to diverse audiences across digital, social media, web platforms, internal communications, and publications.
• Harmonize communications efforts across various channels for consistency and impact.
• Foster strong partnerships with stakeholders as their communications consultant.
• Guide stakeholders through communication protocols, governance, and quality standards.
• Track and analyze communication activities, providing recommendations for ongoing enhancement.
• Identify communication risks and assist in managing reputational issues when necessary.
• Participate in enhancing communication processes, systems, templates, and service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated communications experience with strong relationship-building abilities to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Proven track record of planning and delivering multi-channel campaigns and communications content.
• Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling proficiency with an ability to simplify complex information.
• Strong organizational and project management capabilities to juggle multiple deadlines successfully.
• Good judgment with awareness of reputational and stakeholder considerations.
• A collaborative and proactive mindset committed to customer-focused service excellence.
• Ability to thrive in dynamic environments while maintaining attention to detail.
• Dedication to accessible, inclusive, and audience-centric communications.
• Solid understanding of communications planning and evaluation methods.
• Proficiency in digital marketing platforms and social media management software.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent substantial experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related disciplines.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
