Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Cleaning Supervisor or another designated authority, this role involves collaborating within a team to clean designated areas throughout the premises as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dry buffing, spray cleaning, waxing, machine scrubbing, drying, stripping, and re-polishing floors using appropriate machinery and tools.
• Clean and treat soft floor surfaces such as carpets and matting, applying suitable stain removal techniques.
• Maintain cleanliness of toilet and shower areas, including all fixtures and fittings.
• Dust, clean, and polish ledges, walls, furniture, fixtures, fittings, and internal surfaces up to 3.35 meters high.
• Empty internal waste bins and transport refuse to designated collection points.

Compliance and Safety

• Adhere to Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, relevant legislation, COSHH regulations, and codes of practice.
• Perform duties under usual working conditions inherent to the job.
• Provide cover for colleagues during sickness absence following Education Authority procedures.
• Report absences according to organizational protocols and complete necessary forms, confirmed by the Building Supervisor.
• Wear issued protective clothing and flat-soled enclosed toe footwear during cleaning tasks.
• Use and maintain cleaning equipment safely; report any defects immediately.
• Complete all required documentation accurately.
• Carry out tasks within the employee's competence and grade, including associated duties at the same grade.

Training and Development

• Undergo induction and refresher training, including training required for higher graded duties if necessary.
• Participate in training to fulfill statutory Health and Safety obligations related to cleaning services.

• Posts requiring work in educational settings necessitate enhanced disclosure checks per the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007; the applicant must cover the associated £33 cost.

Person Specification and Selection Criteria

• Applicants must clearly demonstrate how they meet both essential and desirable criteria, detailing qualifications, experience, and skills related to the role.
• Essential experience includes knowledge of school cleaning requirements, cleaning methods, machinery, Health and Safety policies including COSHH.
• Skills desired include initiative, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, effective communication in English, organizational skills, teamwork, and flexibility.
• Desirable criteria include at least three months' cleaning experience outside the home environment and familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment like buffing machines.
