Role Overview

The CAD Designer role involves engaging in automated drafting to create and refine structural, mechanical, and engineering drawings for new and existing water, wastewater, and industrial systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed structural and mechanical drawings utilizing Autodesk Inventor.
• Reference engineering handbooks, design manuals, and product catalogs to obtain necessary data.
• Collaborate with design teams to interpret contract specifications into precise drawings.
• Maintain and update sets of drawings accurately and promptly.
• Transform sketches or concepts into finished detail drawings that meet specifications.
• Modify designs as needed to conform with project requirements while considering budget and timeline constraints.
• Perform visual inspections to ensure component fit and drawing accuracy.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Associate's degree in Product Design and Development, Design Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Understanding of design principles, drafting practices, and the use of design manuals and standard plans.
• Ability to produce clear, accurate scaled drawings from various sources including field data and verbal instructions.
• Mathematical competency related to design and drafting tasks.
• Effective communication skills.

Preferred Attributes

• Bachelor's degree in related disciplines such as Product Design or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• More than six years of relevant experience.
• Experience managing complex CAD models and libraries.
• Skills in mentoring and instructing team members.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Inventor, and CREO.
• Experience working collaboratively in team environments.
• Knowledge of structural detailing, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT), and steel fabrication.

Physical Demands

• Work primarily at a computer workstation.
• Occasional lifting of items weighing 50 to 70 pounds, particularly in warehouse settings.
• Possible need to be clean-shaven to use respiratory safety equipment.
• Fieldwork could require climbing ladders, walking on elevated walkways, exposure to varying weather conditions, and use of safety harnesses.
• Manual dexterity required for handling mechanical parts within fabrication environments.
