Job Overview

Coweta Public Schools is hiring a Building Custodian for Mission Intermediate Grade School for the 2026–2027 school year. This opening is available now and will stay open until the position is filled.

Qualifications and Physical Requirements

The role requires a high school diploma, GED, or comparable experience. The superintendent may approve suitable alternatives to the stated qualification requirements. The work is physically demanding and includes standing and walking for 8 hours per day, along with frequent bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Occasional squatting, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulder level are also part of the job. The position involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 24 pounds, occasional lifting up to 75 pounds, and the ability to move furniture or equipment and carry boxes of books weighing up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity is needed to use a sweeper, vacuum, and mop. The job also includes exposure to dust, fumes, and toxic gases from cleaning materials and sweeping.

Contract and Schedule

This is an 11-month position covering 230 days. The working schedule is 8 hours per day.

Reporting Structure

The custodian reports to the Building Principal and is evaluated by the Building Principal. This position does not supervise other staff.

Essential Job Functions

Clean classrooms and hallways each day by vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, and mopping.
Sanitize bathrooms daily and keep paper goods and other supplies stocked.
Remove trash daily and replace liners in waste bins.
Collect litter and other debris from the school grounds and building areas.
Clean windows and blinds as needed.
Wax floors and shampoo or clean carpets when required.
Lock and secure the building at the end of the work shift.
Monitor heating and air conditioning systems when needed.
Adjust thermostats during the workday.
Carry out additional duties assigned by the supervisor or Superintendent.
