Role Overview

This role focuses on developing the foundational systems powering Arta's wealth platform, including trading infrastructure, ledgering, billing, and real-time data pipelines. The position prioritizes building highly reliable financial systems where precision, consistency, and minimal latency are imperative. Key projects include trading and order workflows, ledger and portfolio accounting systems, and market data analytics pipelines. While interaction with AI-driven components is possible, the primary responsibility is crafting the financial and data backbone essential to the platform.

Key Responsibilities

Design and build core financial services such as trading, ledger, and billing systems.
Develop transaction processing, reconciliation, and portfolio management components.
Create and scale both real-time and batch data pipelines.
Design APIs and backend services for internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain system reliability, observability, and fault tolerance.
Engage in distributed system architecture, including event-driven designs, microservices, and streaming.
Collaborate with machine learning teams to integrate models into production when appropriate.

Candidate Profile

Experienced backend or systems engineer skilled in distributed systems.
Proficient with at least one domain: financial systems (trading, ledger, payments), data infrastructure, or scalable backend platforms.
Thorough understanding of system design principles, consistency, and reliability.
Strong programming ability in Python or equivalent languages.
Comfortable with modern infrastructure technologies such as Kafka, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience with financial primitives like ledger management, order handling, and reconciliation.
Exposure to low-latency or high-throughput system development.
Familiarity with streaming or data platform technologies.
Basic knowledge of machine learning systems is advantageous but not necessary.

Interview Process

Initial introduction with the Head of Talent (20-30 minutes).
Virtual coding, algorithms, and data structure assessment (60 minutes).
Onsite coding, algorithms, and data structure evaluation (60 minutes).
Onsite discussion on domain expertise and system design (60 minutes).
Final interview with a co-founder (30 minutes).

Note: At least one in-person interview is required. Remote candidates might need to visit the Mountain View headquarters to meet the team or engage with a team member located in New York/New Jersey depending on candidate location.

Interview Integrity Policy

To maintain fair assessment standards, candidates must independently complete all interview tasks without external help or AI assistance. With consent, candidates may be asked to share their full screen during technical segments to verify work authenticity. Additionally, disabling virtual backgrounds or filters may be requested temporarily for identity verification. These procedures are voluntary, do not involve recording or storage, and serve only to ensure integrity during the interview.

The total compensation package includes salary and equity options. Salary bands are regionally adjusted to consider geographic cost of living. Candidates are expected to respond to an offer within seven days. Equity is a significant component of total compensation but is detailed separately from salary figures.

Salary Ranges by Level

IC I: $110,000 to $180,000 per year
IC II: $160,000 to $230,000 per year
IC III: $180,000 to $300,000 per year
