About the Department
The Department of Education supports Victorians in achieving prosperous, socially engaged, healthy, and happy lives by fostering lifelong learning, healthy development, family strengthening, and equipping individuals with skills for the modern economy and society.
About the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA)
Formed in 2016 and part of the Department, the VSBA manages Victoria's largest school building initiatives since the introduction of free public education. The authority oversees upgrades, expansions, new school planning and construction to meet growing enrolments, while also supporting school maintenance through expert advice and coordination of grants.
With new funding for two years of kindergarten, VSBA is actively engaged in a broad kindergarten construction effort alongside the early childhood sector.
The Asset Planning and Support Division

It coordinates various maintenance, cleaning, and energy efficiency programs for schools, aiming to consolidate asset management efforts and enhance customer service.
Information and Reporting Unit (IARU)
Within the School Asset Management Support branch, IARU manages asset data for all Victorian government schools, maintaining land and building data for over 1,800 campuses valued at approximately $20 billion. It provides vital reporting to aid capital works planning, budget investment decisions, cleaning management, data visualization, and funding-related reporting.
IARU is crucial for calculating school maintenance funding and collaborates with principals to provide asset management support. It also offers expert advice on data management, system migration, and maintains adherence to Victorian Data Quality Standards.
