Role Overview
The Animal Control Officer ensures adherence to animal control regulations and public safety regarding animals within Blount County. This position acts as a representative for the Blount County Animal Center (BCAC) by interacting with community members through various activities, service responses, and center events.
Key Responsibilities
- Acquire and apply comprehensive knowledge of BCAC policies, systems, and procedures.
- Enforce local animal control laws and regulations rigorously.
- Set traps for capturing animals; remove dangerous animals as needed.
- Prepare detailed reports on bite incidents and enforce quarantine measures for affected animals.
- Manage and organize necessary documentation and records accurately.
- Impound animals when required by law or circumstance.
- Perform humane euthanasia on animals in compliance with guidelines.
- Provide rescue and care for injured or ill animals.
- Ensure constant availability of animal control officers for emergency calls.
- Respond promptly to calls reporting animals without food or water.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in good working order.
- Operate and repair small equipment, including power tools.
- Utilize office technology such as copiers, multi-line phones, and computers effectively for documentation and communication.
- Take on additional duties as assigned related to animal control operations.
Essential Requirements
- Maintain professionalism consistently in interactions with the public, coworkers, and partner agencies.
- Develop and sustain positive relationships within BCAC, including volunteers and associated stakeholders.
- Capable of performing duties in all weather conditions and noisy environments with frequent animal sounds.
