Role Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Learning Mentor to join a primary school in Brent, London, beginning September 2026. This role is designed to support Year 5 pupils as they transition into Year 6, as well as to assist Year 6 pupils in strengthening their academic skills and confidence in preparation for the Key Stage 2 SATs exams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct personalized one-on-one and small group sessions focusing on English and Mathematics targeting Year 6 SATs progress.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce curriculum goals and identify students who need further support.
- Facilitate a smooth Year 5 to Year 6 transition by developing essential literacy, numeracy, and study skills.
- Encourage positive attitudes, confidence, and a growth mindset among pupils.
- Provide academic and emotional support to address and overcome learning challenges.
- Track student progress and maintain detailed records of interventions and their effectiveness.
- Communicate updates to teachers and parents/carers about pupil development as appropriate.
- Assist in SATs preparation, including revision sessions and examination technique coaching.
- Promote good behavior, independence, and effective learning strategies within the classroom environment.
- Support the creation of an inclusive and engaging educational atmosphere.
Candidate Profile
- Compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient individual committed to uplifting children's performance and well-being.
- Previous experience working with primary-aged children, especially those in Key Stage 2.
- Strong knowledge of the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum, with emphasis on English and Mathematics.
- Confident in delivering interventions both individually and in small groups.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills capable of motivating and inspiring students.
- Organized, with the ability to monitor, document, and reflect on student progress effectively.
- Proactive, positive, and professional attitude towards supporting children of diverse abilities.
- Dedicated to fostering confidence, resilience, and a passion for learning among pupils.
Additional Information
Applicants will join an outstanding primary school in NW10 Brent with plans to start in September 2026. Trial days will be conducted during the same month. This opportunity is ideal for those who wish to make a meaningful impact during this critical phase of primary education.
