Year 5 and 6 Learning Mentor

Role Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Mentor to join a primary school in Brent, London, beginning September 2026. This role is designed to support Year 5 pupils as they transition into Year 6, as well as to assist Year 6 pupils in strengthening their academic skills and confidence in preparation for the Key Stage 2 SATs exams.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct personalized one-on-one and small group sessions focusing on English and Mathematics targeting Year 6 SATs progress.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to reinforce curriculum goals and identify students who need further support.
• Facilitate a smooth Year 5 to Year 6 transition by developing essential literacy, numeracy, and study skills.
• Encourage positive attitudes, confidence, and a growth mindset among pupils.
• Provide academic and emotional support to address and overcome learning challenges.
• Track student progress and maintain detailed records of interventions and their effectiveness.
• Communicate updates to teachers and parents/carers about pupil development as appropriate.
• Assist in SATs preparation, including revision sessions and examination technique coaching.
• Promote good behavior, independence, and effective learning strategies within the classroom environment.
• Support the creation of an inclusive and engaging educational atmosphere.

Candidate Profile

• Compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient individual committed to uplifting children's performance and well-being.
• Previous experience working with primary-aged children, especially those in Key Stage 2.
• Strong knowledge of the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum, with emphasis on English and Mathematics.
• Confident in delivering interventions both individually and in small groups.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills capable of motivating and inspiring students.
• Organized, with the ability to monitor, document, and reflect on student progress effectively.
• Proactive, positive, and professional attitude towards supporting children of diverse abilities.
• Dedicated to fostering confidence, resilience, and a passion for learning among pupils.

Additional Information
