Job description

Role Overview

Join the Nowergup team as a Yard Master, a pivotal role responsible for overseeing safe and effective rail operations within the depot. You will lead shunting and railcar movements, ensuring timely train deliveries by working closely with depot stakeholders and operational teams. The position demands leadership, operational coordination, troubleshooting, maintenance support, and adherence to high safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all railcar shunting and piloting activities to guarantee safe and smooth depot operations.
  • Lead and assist Shunters in executing rail movements following strict rail safety standards and operational protocols.
  • Collaborate with depot clients, operational partners, and management to ensure trains are prepared and dispatched as scheduled.
  • Support maintenance tasks on railcars, including fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and authorized specialized procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance, and compliance using appropriate systems and tools.
  • Ensure full compliance with rail safety, quality, environmental, and workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Drive ongoing improvement efforts to boost efficiency, productivity, and quality outcomes.
  • Uphold excellent housekeeping, asset presentation, and workplace organization aligned with 5S principles.
  • Respond promptly to operational disruptions, breakdowns, and urgent maintenance demands to maintain service continuity.
  • Engage in continual training and multi-skilling to enhance operational adaptability and skill development.

Candidate Profile

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Willingness to participate in rotating rosters and ability to pass a Category 1 medical examination.
  • Legal working rights in Australia.
  • Experience in a comparable role, preferably within a rail depot environment, is advantageous.
