Wellbeing Outreach Advisor

About the Role

This is a full-time, fixed-term, in-person position based across various neighborhoods in Lewisham Borough. The Wellbeing Outreach Advisor will work as part of the Lewisham adult mental health services team, collaborating closely with community and mental health services. The role focuses on providing person-centered, goal-driven support, information, and resources to enhance the quality of life for individuals experiencing mental health issues, particularly those disengaged or reluctant to access conventional services.

The Lewisham Outreach Service offers targeted one-to-one support for up to 12 weeks alongside group workshops to empower individuals within Lewisham's diverse communities. It works to address wider health determinants by connecting with individuals outside typical business hours with outreach delivery Monday through Friday (12-8pm), Saturdays (12-4pm), and occasional Sunday mornings. The approach upholds the organization's core values of collaboration, choice, integrity, resilience, and continuous improvement to best meet the needs of Lewisham residents.

Advisors will work independently and mobile, meeting clients in community venues including libraries and co-located mental health teams' offices. They will maintain and coordinate their own caseloads, offering both in-person and online support.

Responsibilities

• Offer focused, time-limited (up to 12 weeks) one-to-one and group support tailored to individuals' self-directed goals.
• Meet clients primarily at community venues across Lewisham.
• Conduct risk management assessments empowering self-management and safeguarding against abuse and self-harm.
• Utilize strong knowledge of local resources to promote personal development and empowerment.
• Design and facilitate community workshops.
• Engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Collaborate with local community and mental health services to ensure cohesive outreach support.
• Maintain transparent, professional relationships with clients and partner agencies.
• Enhance community engagement as a core recovery and self-management aspect.
• Empower clients to exercise choice and control in their care planning.
• Maintain proficient IT skills for record-keeping and organizational practices.
• Document and report activity and outcomes, sharing successes where appropriate.
• Promote client leadership in service development and support volunteers including peer supporters.
• Contribute to the service’s growth by increasing awareness and engagement.
• Ensure confidentiality of client and staff information, sharing only with consent or when risk dictates.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Understanding mental health challenges and recovery processes.
• Proven ability to manage a demanding workload autonomously and flexibly.
• Strong record-keeping and IT literacy, including databases.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
• Ability to build and sustain supportive, professional relationships.
• Familiarity with equal opportunity issues, social exclusion, and working sensitively with minority groups.
• Experience working one-on-one with individuals in fast-paced environments.
• Willingness to travel daily within Lewisham borough for outreach.
• Good written English for reporting and document creation.
• Excellent telephone manner and openness to learning new systems.

Terms and Benefits

• Basic annual salary: 27022.6 GBP
• Additional geographical allowance: 3630 GBP per annum
