Waste Coordinator

Position Overview

As a Waste Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring proper handling and collection of waste while serving as the environmental representative at your logistics site. Your main objectives will include compliance with regulatory requirements, adherence to company standards, and promoting waste reduction.

Key Duties

• Identify and classify waste streams, ensuring proper storage, segregation, packaging, labeling, and preparation for collection in accordance with European and local waste regulations.
• Conduct detailed and accurate environmental inspections to drive continual improvement, including checks at waste collection points, spill emergency kits, product inspection areas, and use of waste management tools.
• Support the site by preparing monthly waste reports to track waste volumes and progress towards reduction goals.
• Monitor environmental incidents on-site and participate in investigations, working closely with the local environmental manager to perform thorough analyses.
• Physically maintain the waste storage area and all related safety equipment such as eye wash stations, spill kits, and fire extinguishers.
• Manage all waste pickups and serve as the liaison with waste disposal vendors, including sending collection reports, scheduling and coordinating pickups, following up on documentation, and maintaining waste transport records.
• Investigate trends, inventory losses, and explore cost-saving measures related to waste handling.

Daily Coordination

Your role involves coordinating efforts among Operations, Facilities & Engineering, and the Environmental Safety & Protection teams. Responsibilities include handling the internal disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, managing donation processes, optimizing external waste pickups, overseeing internal pallet disposal, handling special projects, and supporting the technical department.

You will receive training on applicable regulations to provide technical guidance on waste disposal and implementation of the Amazon Global Environmental Assurance and Protection programs on-site.

Team Background

The Customer Fulfillment team underpins Amazon's order processing, evolving from a bookselling team to a global operation managing over 1.5 million daily orders. This team is central to the business's expansion into new regions and services, employing emerging technologies to enhance product selection and prompt, affordable delivery. Team members work in fulfillment centers—the primary starting point for many Amazon packages—facilitating dynamic inventory management and fast 24/7 deliveries. The workforce is diverse with roles requiring a wide range of skills including physical product handling and data analysis.

Basic Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency in spoken and written German.
• Competent use of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Technical knowledge of waste management processes.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Experience in logistics, operations, warehousing, or customer-facing environments.
• Strong attention to detail and thoroughness.
