Role Overview
As a Waste Coordinator, you will oversee the proper handling and collection of waste materials at the fulfillment center, acting as the environmental representative onsite. Your key focus will be ensuring compliance with local and European waste regulations, Amazon standards, and driving waste reduction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and classify waste, ensuring correct storage, segregation, packaging, labeling, and preparation for pickup in adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Conduct thorough environmental inspections regularly to promote continuous improvement, including checks of waste collection points, spill emergency kits, waste management tools, and areas for product review.
- Assist in compiling monthly waste analyses to track progress on waste volumes and identify improvement opportunities.
- Monitor environmental incidents onsite and actively participate in investigations, collaborating closely with the local environmental manager to execute detailed inquiries.
- Maintain and service the waste storage area and associated safety equipment such as eye wash stations, spill kits, and fire extinguishers.
- Manage waste pickup logistics and act as the primary liaison with disposal contractors, including scheduling collections, sending protocols, tracking documentation for waste shipments, and maintaining transport records.
- Research trends, losses, and potential cost-reduction measures related to waste management.
Daily Operations
You will be the main contact between departments such as Operations, Facilities & Engineering, and the Environmental Assurance and Protection Team. Your duties will include coordinating internal disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, supporting donation processes, optimizing collection with external waste vendors, managing internal pallet disposal, handling special projects, and assisting the technical team. Training will be provided to familiarize you with regulations and to support the implementation of Amazon’s global Environmental Assurance and Protection programs across the facility.
Team Background
The Customer Fulfillment team began as Amazon’s first operational group and has evolved into a global unit managing over 1.5 million orders daily. This team provides the core foundation for Amazon’s business, continually seeking technology-driven solutions to expand product selection and speed of delivery. The fulfillment centers, often referred to as the "first mile," are critical to this network, employing diverse personnel with various skill sets in physical product handling and data analysis to enable fast, accurate order processing.
Required Qualifications
- Proficient German language skills, both spoken and written.
- Relevant professional experience using MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Technical understanding of waste management processes.
- Experience with environmental regulations and compliance.

- Background in logistics, operations, warehouse, or customer-focused environments.
- Consistently strong attention to detail.
