Job description

About Africa Jobs Fund

Africa Jobs Fund (AJF) invests in companies that aim to substantially increase earnings for African workers by focusing on export manufacturing and international labour mobility. Their mission includes mobilizing $100 million to create $50 billion in income gains for African laborers, doubling the lifetime earnings of over 250,000 low-income individuals. AJF operates by both launching new ventures and making strategic investments in existing firms, intending to shift Africa's development conversation towards scalable income growth.

Role Overview

This position centers on the international labour mobility segment, which facilitates placement of African workers into higher-income countries for significant income improvement (5 to 30 times increase). The role involves actively building new companies that enable this mobility, with constant project exploration and investment facilitation rather than passive evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive corridor and market research to identify priority sectors, routes, and regions, engaging recruiters and employers to uncover real opportunities and challenges.
  • Identify and persuade potential founders to join and develop labour mobility companies, evaluating their fit as possible investment recipients.
  • Assist with evaluating investments, perform cost-effectiveness analyses, and help structure financial deals—choosing models such as revenue-based finance or equity and projecting income impacts.
  • Provide hands-on support to portfolio companies, helping founders scale operations and access the network, including onsite validation of partners and workforce sourcing.

Who We Seek

  • AI-natives who integrate advanced AI tools regularly to enhance productivity and workflow efficiency.
  • Highly intelligent and talented individuals adept at deep problem analysis, quick knowledge absorption, and insightful evaluations.
  • Resilient problem solvers energized by diverse and evolving challenges.
  • Diligent workers comfortable with a demanding, non-standard work schedule driven by a compelling mission.
  • Mission-focused professionals committed to impactful, evidence-based work that aims for measurable results.

Preferred Background and Skills

  • Experience within labour mobility or similar fields such as international recruitment, staffing, migration programs, lending, or consumer finance.
  • Proven track record with dynamic startups or rapidly growing early-stage companies.
  • Extensive work experience within African markets.
  • 4 to 15 years of relevant professional experience; openness to various seniority levels depending on talent and potential.

Additional Advantageous Qualifications

  • Multilingual abilities in French, German, Portuguese, Italian, or other relevant destination languages.
  • Familiarity with investment processes, deal structuring, or venture capital operations.
  • Academic knowledge in development economics and proficiency in cost-effectiveness methodologies.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Competitive salary tailored to the responsibilities and experience level, with flexibility to attract exceptional candidates.
  • Remote working arrangement preferred, particularly for candidates residing in Africa.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently throughout Africa and destination countries.
