Job description

About Wayve

Founded in 2017, Wayve pioneers Embodied AI technology, delivering advanced artificial intelligence solutions that enable vehicles to perceive, understand, and navigate complex environments. Our vision is to drive the future of autonomy with intelligent, mapless, and hardware-agnostic AI products aimed at accelerating the transition from assisted to fully automated driving across the automotive industry.

We thrive in a dynamic environment, embracing complex challenges and unpredictability to uncover innovative breakthroughs. Our culture values humility, continuous learning, diversity, and inclusivity, empowering our team members to make meaningful contributions toward a safer, smarter future.

Role Overview

As a Vehicle Safety Operator, you will play a crucial role in shaping road safety by conducting on-road testing and providing expert feedback to our development teams. This position involves operating test vehicles throughout Germany while closely monitoring AI performance and responding swiftly to any hazards, ensuring safety at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Join our diverse, top-tier operations team to perform vehicle tests across Germany.
  • Continuously supervise the artificial intelligence systems during testing to guarantee safe operation.
  • Assess AI behavior during drives and communicate detailed feedback to research and engineering groups.
  • Contribute real-world driving data to enhance AI training prior to public road deployment.
  • Collaborate with safety and engineering teams to uphold stringent safety standards and report any vehicle or safety concerns.

Candidate Profile

To succeed in this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a full, clean German driving licence with a minimum of five years of primarily German driving experience.
  • No culpable insurance claims in the last three years.
  • Excellent communication and empathy skills.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and passionate about innovative problem-solving.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office or Google Suite applications.
  • Basic proficiency in smartphone navigation, including app management, touchscreen gestures, text input/editing, Wi-Fi connectivity, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to disclose any secondary employment during the application process.
  • Subject to pre- and post-offer health assessments to confirm ability to safely perform duties.
  • Employment conditional on passing both initial and periodic drug and alcohol screenings, with testing conducted during the onsite interview.
  • Fluent in both English and German.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience in vehicle testing, autonomous vehicle environments, or technical demonstrations.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technology or related systems.
  • Background in customer service or hospitality roles.
  • Holding T1 and T2 Bertha certifications.

Work Schedule & Location

This is a fixed-term contract lasting one year, based onsite at our Leonberg, Baden-Württemberg office. The role requires national and international travel, and shifts are scheduled on a four-week rotational basis with mandatory weekend work. Shift hours are either 06:30 to 15:00 or 14:30 to 23:00, covering a 40-hour workweek.

Applicants should consider commute feasibility carefully as consistent punctuality is essential. Although on-site parking is available, it is not guaranteed long-term as the team expands. Commutes exceeding 1.5 hours one-way may be impractical for this role.

Diversity and Inclusion

Wayve is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, equitable environment welcoming all backgrounds and perspectives. We encourage applications from individuals passionate about autonomous vehicles who meet the role requirements. Applicants needing accommodations during the hiring process are invited to notify us to ensure full participation.
