Position Overview

The HEINEKEN Company is seeking a Utilities Technician to join its Engineering Department within the Utilities Team located in Port Moresby, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea. The role reports directly to the Utilities Engineer and is focused on ensuring reliable and efficient operations of utilities such as electricity, water, carbon dioxide, and other essential services needed for production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that each utility plant operates according to the design specifications.
  • Gain and maintain a thorough understanding of individual plant operations.
  • Operate utilities equipment by performing Planned Maintenance tasks diligently.
  • Carry out Corrective Maintenance activities on utility plants as required.
  • Monitor and regulate utilities equipment to maintain consistent functionality.
  • Complete shift duties including Quality Control inspections, cleaning, lubrication, equipment tightening, and 5S organizational tasks.
  • Report regularly on utilities production as well as energy and water consumption metrics.
  • Perform shift-based equipment checks and document findings carefully.
  • Detect deviations from design specifications and take immediate corrective action or log non-urgent issues appropriately.
  • Respond promptly to hazardous situations such as leaks of ammonia, fuel, or carbon dioxide, including routine walk-around inspections to assess the condition of machinery and escalate concerns as necessary.
  • Conduct Preventive Maintenance according to Planned Maintenance schedules, ensuring tasks are completed thoroughly and punctually.
  • Communicate inspection results directly to the Utilities Engineer.
  • Collaborate with contractors working in the utilities area, ensuring compliance with safe work standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree or Trade Certificate in mechanical, electrical, automation, or instrumentation disciplines obtained through a technical college, TAFE, or equivalent institution.
  • Fundamental knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the following systems: compressed air installations, power generation and distribution, water and wastewater treatment, carbon dioxide recuperation, ammonia refrigeration, and steam generation.
  • Familiarity with refrigeration and basic electrical legislation.
