About the National Zoological Society of Wales - Welsh Mountain Zoo

The Welsh Mountain Zoo, operating under the National Zoological Society of Wales, is the national zoo of Wales and a registered charity focused on conservation and education. Trustee Opportunities

We are inviting applications for up to three Trustee positions to join our Board and contribute to shaping the future direction of the Welsh Mountain Zoo.

Desired Trustee Profiles

  • Two Trustees with substantial expertise in finance, investments, and business strategy, ideally bringing experience with government or commercial funding sources. Experience working within charitable organizations and possessing strong professional networks is advantageous.
  • One Trustee with in-depth knowledge of biodiversity conservation, including familiarity with both local and international conservation frameworks, and an understanding of the contemporary role zoos play in species preservation.

Role Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with fellow Board members and the senior executive team to provide visionary leadership and robust governance.
  • Contribute to strategic planning to secure the zoo's long-term viability and growth.
  • Support and advance the organization's conservation and educational goals.
  • Serve as a representative and advocate for the zoo externally.
  • Attend quarterly Board meetings in person, primarily held at the Colwyn Bay site.
