About Mercury

Mercury is a forward-looking New Zealand business that supplies energy and telecommunications to more Kiwis than any other provider. It is focused on renewable energy and building a more sustainable future. The company’s purpose is to care for tomorrow by connecting people and place today, helping create a better future for its people, communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The opportunity

This Auckland-based Treasury Manager position sits in Mercury’s Newmarket office and has a major impact on the operational delivery of the treasury function. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance & Treasury, you will work close to important corporate finance decisions covering funding, refinancing, major investments, financial risk management, and capital structure. The role offers direct exposure to the CFO, Treasury Committee, Audit & Financial Risk Committee, and the Board.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced corporate treasury professional who wants to contribute at a senior level while continuing to build capability for the next stage of their career. You will join the Corporate Finance & Treasury team at a time of continued growth and investment in New Zealand’s energy future, and you will be part of a culture built on care, commitment, connection, and curiosity, with support for flexibility, wellbeing, development, and growth.

What you will do

  • Oversee liquidity management, cash forecasting, banking relationships, and debt facilities.
  • Shape and recommend hedging approaches for foreign exchange and interest rate exposure.
  • Carry out approved funding and hedging actions, including debt capital markets transactions.
  • Track market movements and exposure levels so treasury decisions are timely and effective.
  • Keep funding, liquidity, hedging, and counterparty credit risk positions aligned with policy.
  • Develop productive relationships with banks, debt investors, credit agencies, and external advisors.
  • Prepare robust treasury reporting for senior leaders, governance committees, and the Board.

What we are looking for

You will bring substantial corporate treasury background, strong judgement, and the confidence to engage senior stakeholders on complex financial issues. The role suits someone who is commercially sharp, analytical, and able to explain technical matters in a practical, accessible way.

  • Extensive corporate treasury experience, ideally 7+ years.
  • Hands-on experience with debt capital markets transactions.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments such as swaps, options, futures, and similar products.
  • Experience trading or dealing in financial market instruments.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to influence and constructively challenge where needed.
  • Confidence producing clear recommendations and reporting for senior leaders and governance forums.
  • Excellent relationship management across banks, investors, advisors, and internal stakeholders.
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Economics, or a related field.
  • Financial modelling and valuation knowledge would be an advantage.

What Mercury offers

  • An extra 5 days of leave each year, known as MyDays.
  • A one-off tax-free $400 payment to help set up your home office.
  • Discounts on electricity and telecommunications for Mercury customers.
  • A diverse environment where your strengths and talents are recognised and encouraged.
  • Annual salary reviews, a strong parental leave policy, and the option to buy additional leave.
  • Access to the scale, career paths, and facilities of one of New Zealand’s largest multi-utility providers.
  • Discounted health insurance plus free life and income protection insurance.
  • A wellbeing programme that includes up to $100 in annual check-ups and a confidential assistance programme.
  • Gender affirmation leave and supportive bereavement leave, including for the loss of a pet.
