Role overview
This is an on-site training role based in Damascus. The trainer will support the Client’s contractors, design teams, and inspection teams by building practical capability across outside plant (OSP) fiber engineering. The role focuses on sharing current standards, procedures, materials knowledge, and field best practices so that the Client’s teams gain measurable operational value.
What you will do
- Deliver bilingual training sessions in English and Arabic, both in the classroom and directly at site, for contractors and technical teams.
- Explain OSP methods and field practices, including excavation, trenching, duct installation, backfilling, reinstatement, and trenchless approaches such as HDD and micro-trenching.
- Demonstrate cable installation activities such as hauling, blowing/jetting, and splicing or jointing.
- Teach optical testing and measurement techniques, including OTDR, optical power meter, light source, and inspection methods, and show how to assess results against acceptance standards.
- Guide teams on fiber materials, passive components, specification compliance, and product evaluation, while supporting specification review and quality checks.
- Build, revise, and maintain training content such as modules, presentations, and handouts in line with updated standards and guidelines.
- Design effective knowledge-transfer methods and confirm learning through assessments, feedback, and follow-up actions.
- Apply and communicate relevant international references such as ISO/IEC 11801, IEC 60794, and ITU-T G-series recommendations.
- Work with national operator construction and acceptance requirements, along with the Client’s own guidelines.
- Include safety and compliance topics such as national OSH frameworks, ISO 45001 alignment, confined-space controls, excavation safety, work at height, heat-stress precautions, road authority permits, NOCs before excavation, and the regulated summer midday work ban.
What we are looking for
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or telecommunications.
- At least 12 years of overall experience, including 5 or more years in training and development for OSP fiber professionals.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of OSP standards, regulations, compliance, procedures, equipment, tools, and technologies across both fiber and civil works.
- Background in technical functions such as specification work, research and development, quality control, or product development, preferably with passive material suppliers.
- Excellent spoken English and Arabic skills are required.
- Strong communication ability, technical clarity, and the confidence to work independently with limited supervision.
- High initiative, dependability, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential matters appropriately.
- Willingness to travel within the country for training and certification-related activities.
- FOA certifications such as CFOT or CFOS, OSH credentials, and train-the-trainer certification are considered an advantage.
