Role Overview

Join the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) as a Trainee Educational Therapist and acquire specialized professional training to support learners with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. This role involves guiding students to realize their full potential through expert educational therapy catered to their unique needs.

Full-time Trainee Educational Therapist Responsibilities

  • Teach group classes comprising 5 to 6 students.
  • Perform assessments twice annually in a group context.
  • Create and adapt teaching strategies and materials tailored to diverse young learners.
  • Track student academic progress and maintain detailed progress reports.
  • Engage parents by sharing insights and discussing student progress during terms and at biannual Meet-the-Parents events.
  • Participate in awareness sessions and training workshops.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, resource creation, research initiatives, and pilot projects.
  • Fulfill any additional responsibilities assigned.

Flexi Scheme Trainee Educational Therapist Responsibilities

  • Conduct group lessons with classes of up to 8 students.
  • Carry out regular progress monitoring and group assessments twice yearly.
  • Design instructional plans and materials tailored to student needs.
  • Monitor and document academic progress.
  • Communicate student progress with parents during the academic terms and conduct end-of-semester parent meetings twice per year.

Candidate Requirements

  • A diploma or degree from an accredited university in any discipline.
  • Experience teaching in mainstream schools is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written English proficiency.
  • Availability for flexible working hours including weekday evenings (four weeknights) and weekends.
  • Strong motivation, a proactive attitude towards learning, and initiative.
  • A passion for working with children across all age groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with online meeting tools such as Zoom and Google Meet.

Training and Bond Details

All successful candidates must complete a training and certification path including a Certificate course, Specialist Diploma, and Postgraduate Certificate during their bond period. Degree holders commit to a three-year bond, while diploma holders have a four-year bond.

Failure to meet bond obligations requires compensation to DAS. Extensions of bonds may be necessary for additional recommended training beyond initial certification.

Salary and Benefits for Full-time Trainees

  • Starting salaries from SGD 2,810 for diploma holders and SGD 3,630 for degree holders, dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • Upon probation completion, eligibility for annual wage supplements, performance bonuses, and various benefits.
  • Medical coverage during probation period.
  • Up to 6.5 weeks of school holidays annually.
  • Additional allowances for teaching during weeknights and Sundays based on hours taught.

Flexi Scheme Minimum Service and Commitment

Flexi scheme candidates must commit to at least 8 teaching hours weekly and a minimum two-year service commitment totaling approximately 640 hours. This requirement entails responding flexibly to cover classes across multiple DAS centers upon short notice. Non-fulfillment of contractual hours incurs compensation obligations.
