Traffic Management Operative

Role Overview

As a skilled Traffic Management Operative, you will be responsible for managing diverse traffic control schemes on various projects to ensure efficient workflow and maximize daily output while upholding excellent health and safety standards. The position demands adaptability as shifts could include days, nights, and some weekends. A positive, responsible approach to work is essential.

Key Duties

• Manage all forms of traffic control, including give and take systems, priority working, Stop/Go boards, portable traffic lights, convoy operations, road and lane closures, and diversions.
• Implement all tasks in accordance with safe working practices and company guidelines.
• Conduct risk assessments and prepare method statements related to traffic management work.
• Follow established procedures for all job activities, identify potential improvements, and communicate these with your supervisor.
• Perform daily vehicle checks to ensure cleanliness, tidiness, and safety for drivers and passengers.
• Maintain a positive company reputation through professional conduct, wearing company apparel, and keeping sites clean.
• Take initiative to identify and suggest operational improvements continually.
• Assist and direct members of the public safely through site areas when necessary.
• Recognize scenarios that require management intervention promptly.

Safety Rules

• Only carry out traffic control tasks for which you are trained and qualified (minimum LANTRA accreditation).
• Ensure all setups comply with relevant laws and guidelines, such as the Red Book, Chapter 8, and ARTSM.
• Regularly inspect site conditions to maintain compliance.
• Report unsafe acts or conditions immediately and correct them safely where competent.
• Drive carefully while adhering to speed limits and avoiding distractions to prevent accidents.
• Park vehicles considerately, ensuring public and road user safety.
• Wear five-point PPE at all times on site.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Lantra 12d accreditation (TTMBC, 12d M1-M2).
• Additional certifications such as Lantra 12 a/b, IPV driver license, and foreman qualifications are advantageous.
• Understanding of distinctions between Chapter 8 and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book) regulations and their practical applications.
• Possession of a valid UK driving license.
• Ability to read and comprehend CAD drawings relevant to traffic management tasks.
• Mechanical aptitude related to traffic light systems is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive wage ranging from 12.71 to 15 per hour, depending on qualifications, with enhanced overtime rates. A full benefits package is included.
