About the Role
At Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), our Platforms Domain aims to empower engineers by delivering platform solutions that emphasize simplicity, security, resilience, and suitability. Our approach incorporates Infrastructure as Code, automation, and cloud-native engineering to support teams in achieving remarkable customer outcomes.
The Containers Platform team manages BNZ's Kubernetes platforms, enabling hundreds of developers to safely and effectively build, deploy, and manage applications across cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. Our responsibilities also include maintaining related container technologies and services within BNZ’s broader container ecosystem.
Our core mission involves minimizing system complexity, maximizing automation, and fostering self-service capabilities to accelerate engineering workflows. Covering Kubernetes platforms, container registries, automation tools, and developer enablement, we continuously seek innovative methods to simplify processes for our users.

Daily Responsibilities
- Build, operate, and enhance Kubernetes platforms deployed on AWS and Azure.
- Automate platform management routines including provisioning, patching, and compliance enforcement.
- Address complex challenges related to platform stability, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to boost platform adoption and improve self-service tools.
- Contribute to the development of platform standards, comprehensive documentation, and best practice guidelines.
- Drive initiatives aimed at improving platform security, reliability, automation, and developer experience.

Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes system administration and operational management.
- Experience working with public cloud platforms, particularly AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
- Proficient in container technologies including Docker and OCI-compliant containers.
- Practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
- Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) automation pipelines.
- Understanding of GitOps principles and familiarity with tooling such as Helm and Kustomize.
- Competency in scripting and automation languages like Bash or Go.
- Experience with observability and monitoring systems to ensure platform health.
- Solid foundation in networking, security principles, and troubleshooting platform issues.
- Knowledge of Linux environments and VMware virtualization technologies.

Additional Information
The position is hybrid-based, with a work schedule of three days in the Auckland or Wellington office and two days adaptable for remote work. Applications will be assessed throughout the recruitment period, with the possibility of early closure.
