Subdivision Landscape Officer

Job Overview

Hume City Council, a rapidly growing and culturally diverse local government in Australia, seeks a permanent full-time Subdivision Landscape Officer headquartered in Broadmeadows, Victoria. This position offers an annual salary of $99,526.96 plus superannuation and is part of the Planning & Development team.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate landscape masterplans, concept plans, and detailed subdivision landscape proposals to ensure compliance with Council’s standards and specifications.
• Engage and negotiate with developers and consultants to address required alterations and ensure conformity with relevant guidelines and policies.
• Ensure submissions align with planning permit conditions alongside the Council’s Landscape Guidelines, Policies, and Strategies.
• Provide guidance to developers and consultants on landscaping and open space requirements for new subdivisions in accordance with Council directives.
• Assist with reviewing and updating Landscape Guidelines under the guidance of the Team Leader Landscape Planning.
• Offer technical advice supporting sustainable landscape development and assist the Subdivision Engineering Team on Functional Layout Plan submissions.
• Manage the full landscape plan approval process to ensure high standards and timely completion.
• Contribute to ongoing process improvements for landscape planning.
• Deliver regular progress reports to the Team Leader Landscape Planning relating to timelines and performance metrics.
• Track landscape approvals, associated fees, bonds, and Statement of Compliance consents.
• Oversee administrative support related to Landscape Planning processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proven experience collaborating with land developers, landscape architects, and consultants in landscape planning, design, and construction.
• Strong understanding of open space planning principles for new estates and infill subdivisions.
• Familiarity with landscape planning in the context of municipal assets and planning permit applications.
• Competence in managing effective data and record-keeping systems for landscape planning purposes.
• Effective communication and liaison skills with various stakeholders to resolve issues and achieve Council objectives.
• Aptitude for translating complex technical information into easily comprehensible language.
• Experience or knowledge of Local Government operations and procedures.
• Degree or Diploma in Landscape Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field, or substantial relevant experience with less formal qualifications.
• Valid current driver’s licence.
