Role overview
This position is for a detail-focused and experienced Structures Inspector to work in Doha, Qatar on a long-term assignment supporting the management of strategic highway structures. The role centers on inspection and maintenance activities for bridges and other highway assets, with responsibility for protecting safety, structural integrity, and serviceability in line with contractual Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators.
The asset portfolio may include bridges, footbridges, flyovers, interchanges, iconic bridges, tunnels, monuments, culverts, retaining walls, gantries, masts, and other structural elements within the highway network.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee inspection and maintenance obligations so contractual requirements are met, including preventive and corrective maintenance targets and compliance with all SLA and KPI commitments.
- Use the asset management platform effectively to raise, track, and close work orders and service requests accurately and on time.
- Keep bridge management records current, including asset inventory, inspection findings, condition ratings, and performance information.
- Inspect structures to evaluate their condition, identify deterioration patterns, and flag safety or structural concerns.
- Perform safety, general, principal, and special inspections of bridges and highway structures, and produce accurate reports with clear maintenance recommendations.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated operations and maintenance across the network.
- Apply relevant inspection, maintenance, and assessment standards used in Qatar, which are largely based on UK practice.
- Contribute ideas and practical input for improved inspection methods, maintenance techniques, asset management processes, and innovation in bridge O&M.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering, or substantial directly relevant experience in highway structure inspections, ideally gained in Qatar or elsewhere in the Middle East.
- Hands-on background in operations and maintenance contracts covering bridges and similar highway structures.
- Strong understanding of how reinforced concrete, steel, composite, and prestressed structures behave and deteriorate over time.
- Working knowledge of bridge asset management, condition assessment methods, and whole-life planning.
- Experience using enterprise asset management tools, preferably MAXIMO, and bridge management systems, preferably BMS.
- Understanding of structural analysis, load rating, and assessment of existing assets.
- Familiarity with structure maintenance and assessment references such as the UK Inspection Manual, UK DMRB, Qatar QRMM, and related standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including the capability to interpret data and shape risk-based inspection programmes.
- High attention to detail with the ability to inspect multiple assets and deliver accurate outputs the first time.
- Clear communication skills for technical report writing and engagement with stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to travel frequently across Qatar for inspections, maintenance work, and site activities.
