Job description

Position Overview

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for managing and implementing the physical training programs for Olympic sports teams at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. This role focuses on enhancing the performance, wellness, and readiness of cadet-athletes through scientifically-informed strength, speed, and conditioning protocols both onsite and during travel. The position is full-time and requires adherence to the policies of USMA, AWPAA, the Patriot League, and the NCAA. Relocation assistance is provided.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive yearly sports performance plans for primary teams encompassing strength, speed, and conditioning.
  • Utilize analytics tools such as Polar, Forcedeck, Norbord, wellness questionnaires, and performance testing to assess and monitor athlete progress.
  • Maintain detailed records of cadet-athlete performance data and injury rehabilitation protocols.
  • Collaborate with nutritionists to devise complementary nutritional strategies for athlete development.
  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly training updates and reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Travel with primary teams to all away competitions, providing on-site support and performance assessment.
  • Design strength and conditioning programs tailored for injured athletes to facilitate recovery.
  • Perform assessments and monitor movement patterns in coordination with high-performance and sports medicine teams.
  • Create and oversee sports performance programs for secondary teams similarly involving strength, speed, and conditioning aspects.
  • Assist with scheduling, managing, and supervising strength training facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain certifications in strength and conditioning as well as CPR/AED/First Aid; engage in continuing education.
  • Mentor cadets and maintain facility cleanliness and organization.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and effective communication with all team members and staff.
  • Prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and implement effective problem-solving strategies.

Education and Credentials

A minimum of a four-year degree is preferred. The position requires ongoing certification maintenance in strength and conditioning and first aid.

Additional Information

The salary ranges from $55,000 to $59,000 per year, with hiring expected near the midpoint of this band. Exceptional candidates may be considered for higher compensation. The role is situated in West Point, NY, with relocation cost assistance available.
