Role Overview
We are seeking a Strategic Workforce Planning Consultant to join a complex higher education transformation programme on a six-month contract based in Auckland Central. This role emphasizes translating existing workforce analytics and data into actionable and clear future workforce plans rather than performing traditional workforce analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify current roles impacted by upcoming workforce models.
- Map existing roles against future workforce demands.
- Develop future role architecture, defining which roles will remain, evolve, emerge, or be phased out.
- Create capability and competency frameworks relevant to evolving roles.
- Design workforce transition pathways and outline options for priority employee groups.
- Contribute to reviews of position descriptions and role mapping exercises.
- Produce strategic workforce plans and workforce maps at a high level to guide decisions.
- Assist recruitment checkpoints and support transition decision processes.
- Collaborate actively with senior leadership, HR/OD teams, and project stakeholders.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with ambiguity, can interpret partial or imperfect data confidently, and can articulate complex workforce insights into straightforward recommendations. Experience with workforce data platforms like TechnologyOne HR/P, Power BI, or Excel is advantageous but not central to this role.
Success Factors
- Strong structured thinking and communication abilities.
- Confidence in facilitating discussions across HR, OD, project teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to challenge assumptions and clarify complex workforce planning issues.
Additional Information
This is a contract role focused on strategic workforce planning and organisational design within a transformative environment.
