Job description

About the Role

Join Maersk's Ocean Global Stowage Planning team where you will play a crucial role in the global trade chain. As a Stowage Planner, you will craft intelligent and secure stowage plans that optimize vessel operations—ensuring safe, efficient voyages by balancing cargo distribution, ship stability, and operational needs.

This position offers an immersive experience in an international setting, exposing you to diverse stakeholders, cutting-edge systems, and real-time logistics decision-making. You will enhance skills that are highly valued in the shipping industry while contributing to the advancement of global supply chains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arrange container placement onboard ships to develop a layout that guarantees seaworthiness, including safe segregation of hazardous materials, enabling multiple crane operations, distributing weight appropriately, and meeting stability and safety standards.
  • Maintain superior stowage planning practices to maximize vessel use and minimize operational expenses while upholding safety.
  • Manage the entire stowage workflow alongside stakeholders worldwide, at any time.
  • Assess vessels' appropriateness for specific services, considering trade demands and vessel attributes.
  • Continuously refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance team and stakeholder performance.
  • Collaborate closely with various internal departments and external stakeholders such as terminals, ship commands, operations, and deployment teams to ensure smooth functioning.
  • Proactively identify and address potential operational challenges to mitigate risks from unforeseen events.

Candidate Profile

  • Approximately 3 years of relevant experience in stowage planning, terminal planning, container shipping operations, seafaring, or naval architecture/engineering.
  • Encouragement for recent graduates from Maritime Studies or STEM fields due to valued analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours with rotational night shifts roughly every six weeks to support vessel berth operations.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, with proficiency managing time effectively in dynamic environments.
  • Adaptable with excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate across cultural and professional divides.
  • Quick to acquire new technologies and software, completing mandatory Basic Theory and Basic Stowage Proficiency certifications.

The role strongly supports diversity and inclusion, welcoming candidates regardless of background, identity, or protected status. Maersk provides accommodations throughout application and employment for candidates requiring assistance.
