Staff Systems Engineer - AI and Digital Signal Processing

About the Role

Join QT Technologies Ireland Limited as a Staff Systems Engineer specializing in AI and Digital Signal Processing based in Cork, Ireland. This role focuses on sensors-based technologies applied across diverse fields such as navigation, gaming, smart interfaces, multimedia, virtual and augmented reality. The position involves working through all phases of the product lifecycle from research and development to commercial launch, collaborating closely with global systems, software, and integration/testing engineering teams within the Qualcomm QCT sensors group.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with global systems and software teams to deliver sensor-based products.
• Develop and validate sensor algorithms using high-level programming languages such as MATLAB and Python.
• Balance engineering tradeoffs involving performance, memory usage, power efficiency, and computational complexity.
• Design and implement embedded software using C and C++ for both fixed and floating-point architectures.
• Document algorithm evaluation outcomes and produce comprehensive design and user manuals.
• Effectively communicate design choices, results, and challenges to product managers and technical leads.
• Lead system projects end-to-end including requirements gathering, system design, and software implementation.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.

Qualifications and Skills

• Deep understanding of advanced machine learning techniques including supervised and unsupervised learning, feature extraction, classification methods, logistic regression, Bayesian inference, and neural networks.
• Strong foundation in digital signal processing principles, linear algebra, probability, and statistics.
• Experience with machine learning libraries and toolkits.
• Proficient embedded programming skills in C and C++.
• Experience working with MEMS and inertial sensors.
• Excellent analytical thinking and ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Preferred: Over one year of experience managing, mentoring, or coaching engineers in both technical and non-technical domains.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related fields plus 4+ years relevant ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience.
• Or Master’s degree with 3+ years of equivalent experience.
• Or PhD with 2+ years relevant experience.
• Equivalent experience considered if candidate demonstrates required competencies and ability.
